The Bear

The Bear is an 1885 “Comic Sketch in One Act” by Anton Chekhov. It features a mourning widow, Elena Ivanovna Popova, a servant named Luka, and an aggressive lender who seeks payment named Grigory Stepanovich Smirnov. As part of Brooklyn College’s One Act Festival, this educational version of this piece was gender-flipped to make the three characters Greta Stefania Smirnova (Nairoby Otero), Yuriy Ivanov Popóv (Evan Moore-Coll), and Natalia Soto as the servant Luka.
